At Triablogue I asked whether it was moral for the Revolutionary War to occur. The question behind that is when is an uprising against a municipality morally acceptable? I think Romans 13 was written to a Church that had no ability to defend itself and that is a much different set of circumstances today. I can see that 1 of the requirements would be the right motive. It must not be done for selfish ambition and evil intent. It must come from a good Godly desire for future generations to succeed and to have some form of peace. That they emplace a government that is directed for the betterment of mankind. The other requirement would be the principles of a revolution. It can’t be done with the horrible principles of the French Revolution. It must be in line with a right ethical code. The last is the purpose, what do seek to establish in the wake of a toppled regime? It would be pointless to replace a totalitarian state with another totalitarian state! It also must be done as a last measure. It is something not to be rushed in too. They must be thought about deeply and prayed about.
