I remember discussing with a college student the issue of transgenderism. I challenged the distinction between gender and sex and pushed it further on being absurd. They then pulled out their textbook for one of their classes(Humanities) and they referred to the Hindu religion as a sort of proof for transgenderism.
1. From my understanding, most leftists are not Hindus. So, it really isn’t relevant to what arguments I would use. The idea that transgenderism is found in ancient cultures is irrelevant to whether one ought to think there exist more than two genders. How many silly ideas have existed throughout the centuries? Crowder points out that many societies have a binary view of gender. But they can’t even name the number of genders, the Hindus only posit three. Plus I doubt they think humans have souls that are connected to the wrong body.
2. The Hinduism appeal also shows the ignorance of the advocate. Ideas are a part of a more cohesive whole. Hindus are often spiritual monist. They would maintain there is only one gender because there is only one being, Brahmin. They were postmodernists before it was cool.
3. Steven Crowder does a good job of showing how a person just ignores the broader worldview that is behind these ideas. He has to fall back on the rule of law but without realizing laws tend to be arbitrary whims of the state.
