I have continued this conversation with our Catholic friend “TLM Fan” and it is running it’s course. He refuses to defend that contradictory dogma of the Catholic church, the spooftexting of doctrine in the catechism, or the changes in doctrine over time. He jumps around when refuted and I’m not here to follow him everywhere he wishes to venture. He has found himself defending the New perspective on Paul. He states:
Someone like N.T Wright has a more sound exegesis “based on historical methods and historical evidence”, and in his milimeter by milimeter exegesis, he comes to a soteriology that pretty much resembles that of the Catholic Church.
This leaves him with a problem of explaining how he holds to everything he has stated before:
you know what is really interesting about Protestantism? that is so full of contradictions. e.g., if you believe that Luther was the first Christian that got the gospel right, then let me reply to you with an argument from Mr White himself…(I love it)

This undermines your entire argument of the Consensus Fidelium. The point of the NPP is that they have uncovered the true context of Paul and that it was lost until recently. This undermines the idea that the true beliefs about Justification have been preserved through the Church. N. T. Wright teaches assurance of final salvation for those that have been justified. That is a position Roman Catholics have condemned since the council of Trent.
