I haven’t talked about the issues surrounding coronavirus. I try not to be merely forced to write about things as they garner attention. I often like to have articles dealing with weird theological issues that aren’t often discussed or provide foundations to foster a Biblical worldview. I think that a few comments should be remembered. I wish to explain a couple of thoughts in regard to whether the government has the right to declare a lockdown. I would contend that in the advent of this decision we have seen the government attacking the freedoms of mainly religious republicans. We should already be suspicious that this virus is as problematic as some have made it out to be. For example, we have them shutting down churches and supporting rioting. I think Americans can see through games like that. They have threatened businesses with arbitrary restrictions(essential/non-essential, essential products, capacity limits, etc) and allowed rioters to wreak havoc. I briefly was in Portland and can testify to what I saw was senseless vandalism where the government supports criminals over citizens. We have seen even the realizing of criminals and the fining of businesses trying to make a living. We should notice that the weaponizing of science isn’t very new and with all these signs it is hard to ignore the great probability that it is occurring in this case.
The other level of this issue is the issue over rights vs public safety. I fall on the side of rights. People should have decided for themselves whether the virus was that big of a risk. For example, when my Father passed away a few months ago we were not allowed more than 10 people to his funeral. My wife didn’t get to come because of the restrictions and many other loved ones. I found it to be an overbearing restriction and stupid. While at the same time, my state promoted rioting.
We have seen virtue signaling over the issue of whether people should wear masks.
It’s hard to take seriously the usefulness of masks when political figures use it for such. The other issue is that certain statements regarding the use of masks are implausible. I think this country has had as much heavy usage of mask usage and yet infection rates remain high. Secondly, many maintain that the mask offers you(the wearer) no protection, but rather it protects others. But why suppose if things can get in they also can’t get out? Lastly, how much can we demand others to wear? I suppose we can legislate people wear hazmat suits 24/7 given such a principle. We also have a spike amongst nurses getting COVID. They are even trained to properly wear mask and yet they have even restricted it. In Oregon, nurses were protesting for special hazard pay because they constituted 5% of all COVID victims in that state.
Furthermore, the financial push towards socialism is so obvious that it should worry us. The spending problem in this country isn’t getting any better. We also have a terrible decision for those that rely on the United States to produce cheap and easily available food:
The United Nations forecasts that even if the world economy rebounds in the second half of the year, the economic downturn would increase the numbers in extreme poverty up by anything from 84 million to 132 million. The recession would reverse years of progress in the fight against child mortality in the developing world. The UN’s World Food Program predicts that by the end of the year, the numbers facing acute hunger will double to 265 million. These are staggering figures. If this were to be the result of a natural disaster, it would be worldwide news. Now, it’s just seen as a footnote in the side-effects of lockdown.
