Recently, the parol board met for a commutation hearing for Julius Jones. The Parol Board themselves might find some legal issues. His several lawyers made a case for why they should vote to reduce his punishment to life w/ the possibility of parole. There were a few main arguments for innocence:

1. The DNA isn’t significant enough to show Jones did it:

The Justice for Paul Howell group has provided the observation from Dr. Dwight Adams on Amanda Bass statements:

2. Testimony stating Christopher Jordan committed the crimes:

The issue with this claim is that it is based on the claims of Emmanuel Littlejohn. But he is a biased party:

Emmanuel Littlejohn is one of the infamous jailhouse informants that the Julius Jones‘ team claims Christopher Jordan confessed to. What they don’t tell you is that Sandra Elliott, the lead prosecutor in the trial against Julius Jones, had originally tried Emmanuel Littlejohn for murder in 1994 and he received Death, 300 years, and 99 years consecutively. Littlejohn’s case was reversed and remanded in 1998 for resentencing because a jailhouse informant had been used in the sentencing portion (contrary to what the defense claims there are very specific evidentiary rules regarding corroboration of informant testimony).
Littlejohn next claimed that he was incompetent. Sandra Elliott testified regarding Littlejohn’s ability to assist his attorney during his competency trial and the jury found him competent to stand trial. Littlejohn had another sentencing trial and received death again. To say that Littlejohn hates Sandra Elliott is an understatement. To say that he would like to try to sabotage a case of her’s is obvious. Sandra Elliott would have cross-examined Littlejohn and his motive would have clearly been established. Jones’s defense team gave Littlejohn a polygraph test regarding his statement and he could not pass it.

3. Racial Bias:

Why would racists police help a black guy (Christopher Jordan) go free if he murdered a white guy? Wouldn’t the supposed racist’s police have a grudge?

4. Bad Legal defense:

That might have worked in this case hadn’t been revisited several times:

The subsequent appeals and evidentiary hearing, the court has ruled that Jones’ counsel made informed decisions and applied reasonable strategies in his defense. Jones failed to demonstrate any prejudice from the trial counsel’s performance resulting in a different outcome.

Ineffective assistance of counsel claims are made in every capital appeal.
A total of 13 appellate judges and
the standards of appellate review
Supreme Court have all reviewed
Julius’s conviction and sentence
(AG’s Statement at 12)

There was the mentioning of the other crimes that Julius Jones did. The issue is that they ignore the fact that his girlfriend told and gave police the stolen merchandise from these robberies.
