I was in a conversation regarding whether Dr. Mullins’s view on time shared something in common with Agustine. Several open theists wished to try to explain to me that I was deeply wrong. The irony I was pointing out is that the thinker named Warren McGrew prances around accusing his opponents of being Augustinians and Neoplatonists (or Gnostic). For those that wish to read the conversation it was in the comment section of this video:
I pointed out that Warren’s view shares beliefs in common with Agustine. So, by his own standard, he is a Gnostic (insert whatever group he associates with Agustine). There are two significant overlaps with Agustine that Warren McGrew has, his view of time and his view of God. Warren affirms eternal generation and plays around with Dr. Ryan Mullins’s view of time.
I was then told that Dr. Mullins’s view shares nothing in common with Agustine’s view and that I’m ignorant of both. The issue with these claims is that Dr. Mullins agreed with this himself:
Who are we to believe is correct about this connection, Warren or Mullins? I recommend you go with Mullins. Also, I went back a little to give you context to where he agrees with Jimmy’s statement and connection to Agustine.
Lastly, and it wasn’t really addressed by any of the Open Theists, but eternal generation simply has routes in the greek views of the early church. We’ve talked about its similarities to Neoplatonism:
