Bosserman on Stroud’s Objection

Another objection to Van Til’s presuppositionalism is that it is covertly pragmatic. Far from making any headway toward demonstrating that Christianity is objectively true, Van Til has really only proven that Christianity represents a most, or even the most useful and desirable belief system. Yet, again, the objector has lapsed back into the very sort of position that Van Til has proven untenable. If reality were the sort of place where subjective and objective truth could be so disconnected, the objector would have no ground for supposing that his reasoning process advances by objectively valid inferences.413 Hence, the objection that … Continue reading Bosserman on Stroud’s Objection

Murder on Apologetics Row

Suppose you were locked in a mansion with 10 other individuals. You come to find that one of the 10 other individuals have murdered the owner of the mansion. You proceed to look for every piece of evidence available. You decided the evidential route was better than “The Butler did it”. You quickly find the evidence is limited and doesn’t demarcate one specific person as the criminal over another. Tensions are surely going to rise throughout the night as nobody can trust the other. The position you are in is a difficult one. But would you say that you are … Continue reading Murder on Apologetics Row

Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eric Hernandez went on Soteriology101 to discuss Calvinism and presuppositionalism. It wasn’t a very interesting podcast. So, I’ll state a few brief things about it and won’t waste much time about it. 1. Hernandez is simply ignorant of the actual presuppositionalists view of the role of evidence in apologetics. He thinks Van Tilians are against evidence and even quips “Elijah didn’t read Van Til”. Dr. James Anderson stated in an article about “Frequently Encountered Misconceptions of Van Til”: 1. Van Til rejected the use of evidence in apologetics [A] minority of evangelicals continues to support retrenchment and isolationism. […] Not … Continue reading Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Questions on Presuppositionalism

Someone posted a few questions for presuppositionalist and I figure that I would take a shot at answering them. 1. From a historical standpoint, it seems pretty evident that the Van-Tillian method of doing apologetics was a novelty in the history of Reformed theology. I don’t know how one dispels the evidence that Calvin, Turretin, and most of the puritans held to the classical model. Well, this is true. Presuppositionalism is a development based on a lot of ideas coming together. I think it is consistent with the Worldview reasoning that Christian is forced and always had to deal with. … Continue reading Questions on Presuppositionalism

Christianity, Science & the Dark Ages

The idea that permeates internet atheist thought is that the dark ages were caused by Christianity and drove the world into darkness. This even setting human advancement back hundreds of years. This narrative is false and just a silly theory with only evidenced by a family guy episode. Pastor Mike Winger on Presuppositionalism

I watched a conversation between Sye Ten Bruggencate and Mike Winger dialogue about the Biblical apologetic methodology. I am a bit rusty about the methodology debate but I will try to add my thoughts if I can. I went and watched the original video by Pastor Winger and I’ll make a few comments about my perspective. 1. Winger starts off by stating that presuppositionalist don’t believe in Atheist. That they believe Atheist consciously lie about their lack of knowledge of God. The issue is the presuppositionalist don’t actually think the unbeliever is always conscious of his unbelief. That is what … Continue reading Pastor Mike Winger on Presuppositionalism
