The Charge of Individualism

It is a common charge that Calvinist have a modern understanding of the Bible. The Biblical writers thought in terms of corporate bodies and federal heads. Calvinism is riddled with 16th-century individualism. Freewill Theist read the Bible historically. These are an interesting charge but the smell of rotting hypocrisy should be filling your nose by now. If you can’t see where the hypocrisy exists, then look no farther than Dr. Thomas Schreiner: Abasciano charges my view with being individualistic and western and claims that his view reflects the culture of the first century. But it seems to me that the … Continue reading The Charge of Individualism

Not Wishing For Any To Perish

“Not Wishing For Any To Perish” by Chris Harris 2 Peter 3:9. Is it a good passage for the Lord wanting all men to be saved? Let’s look at it. I believe everyone knows that I am a Calvinist, so I will offer how I see this passage as a Calvinist would. The thing is that we aren’t using some “special” hermeneutics to do so, rather just allowing the text to speak without allowing our presuppositions to force us in any direction. Turretin on Arminians

The Arminians (who bring popery and Pelagianism in by the back door) have struck against the same rock. For although they endeavor with great labor to prove that they do not make faith the cause of election (in order to shun the odium of semi-Pelagianism deservedly charged upon them), still they do not deny that it is the cause sine qua non or the prerequisite condition necessary in those to be elected. Yea, not obscurely can we gather that they proceed further and attribute a certain causality to faith, so that God is moved by its foresight to choose this … Continue reading Turretin on Arminians
