Flowers on Ephesians 1

Recently, I was kicked from the Soteriology 101 anti-Calvinist bash because Leighton was offended by something in my article. He stated that he was offended and what I said was childish. I informed him that it wasn’t childish and that he was begging the question. So, in honor of that, I have decided to write another Leighton Flowers article. I am not a big fan of his and you’ll see why. ——————————————–QUOTE—————————————————– 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace and peace to you from … Continue reading Flowers on Ephesians 1

Flower Patch Kids

Dr. Leighton Flowers has recently invited someone on his podcast to butcher Romans 9. That is a ritual and passage into manhood in the lands of the traditionalist. They spend the rest of their time trolling old John Macarthur sermons. So, back to the article, it was written by Dr. Eric Hankins. This won’t be a complete response article because I’m not that dedicated. ——————————————–QUOTE—————————————————– The repugnance of reprobation is why Calvinists like Grudem come up with philosophically incoherent fixes like “single predestination,” God’s “asymmetrical relationship” to election and reprobation, God’s “two wills,” “two loves,” and so on.[7] Grudem concedes that it … Continue reading Flower Patch Kids

The Moral Psychology of Depravity

James Gibson gives his thoughts on one of Leighton’s ‘arguments’ against Calvinism. The article unpacks the fact that Leighton exercises his ability to eisegete the issue of election into Mark 10 and misrepresents a common Calvinist understanding of Total Depravity. The article is a good insight on how to frame Total Depravity while talking to a traditionalist. I think one issue is that the passage is problematic for the traditionalist. Why would it be more difficult for a Rich man to enter the kingdom of God? Doesn’t a rich person have libertarian freedom? If what Flowers believe is true, then … Continue reading The Moral Psychology of Depravity

Freewill Scapegoat: Part 2

I saw that Mike Manea responded to me over on BTWN and I have gotten a little free time to respond. “The issue is that her writings are at the center of these controversies. So, if she is authoritative in your eyes, then she must be a part of the conversation.” EGW has no authority when it comes to SDA theology and doctrine. Our epistemology is nothing like that of Mormons or JWs. We are firm promoters of Sola Scriptura, even more so than any other protestant group because we reject ALL external authorities and hermeneutical keys (Protestant tradition, Christian … Continue reading Freewill Scapegoat: Part 2

Hypocrisy 101

Dr. Leighton Flowers has been an outspoken critic of all things Calvinism. He has made a bit of a following doing so. The problem with many of his arguments is their ability to refute his own position. That won’t be the point of what I’ll be talking about, but I would like to point out his hypocritical coverage of Calvinism and to that of Molinism. He never attacks the Molinism of his traditionalist allies. I can understand that that isn’t his audience nor is it his mission to give an analysis of different Soteriological systems. He is really Anti-Calvinism101 and … Continue reading Hypocrisy 101

Van Til and Common Grace

A very important insight of Van Til is his notion of Common Grace. Here is William Dennison’s words on Van Til’s notion: Readers of Plato’s dialogues must be sensitive to what literary critical scholars refer to as the “Socratic problem,” that is, the task of separating which concepts belong to Socrates (470/ 469– 399 BC) and which concepts belong to Plato. Although a number of ideas continue to be subject to speculative analysis, many scholars follow Aristotle’s (384– 322 BC) lead, maintaining that the doctrine of Forms that appear in the middle and later dialogues belongs to Plato. 137 For … Continue reading Van Til and Common Grace

Cartesian Demons and Christianity

I’ll post a recent conversation between Jimmy and an atheist that recently occurred: Ledouche said: How do you know god isn’t an infinite deceiver? Jimmy said: I don’t consider infinite deceivers a possibility. Given the Christian worldview, the existence of the Christian God and His revelation rule out the possibility that there is such a deceiver floating about. God Himself is the original archetype of truth: his perfect self-coherence, self-reflection, and self-containment (by which I mean that all universals about God exhaust the particulars, and all particulars exemplify universals). And God determines the truths of the cosmos; His word is … Continue reading Cartesian Demons and Christianity
