Ordo Absurdum: The Golden Chain of Redemption (Romans 8:28-30)

Following on the heels of the argumentation provided for regeneration preceding faith in 1 John 5:1 (which can be viewed here), I would like to provide a defense of the reformed doctrine of God’s unconditional election and predestination in Romans 8:28-30. In order to do this, I have provided another abridged version (the full thread can be read here) of a conversation that I had in the comment section (the same thread as the previous article linked above) of a YouTube video by Dr. Leighton Flowers (which I participated in). This conversation is breathtaking in regards to the level of inconsistency and … Continue reading Ordo Absurdum: The Golden Chain of Redemption (Romans 8:28-30)

Empty Rhetoric and Inconsistency for the Sake of Tradition

I recently had a discussion with a Roman Catholic in the comment section of a video by Dr. Leighton Flowers. It appeared that he was attempting to convert Dr. Flowers to Roman Catholicism. I would like to briefly note that this seems to be the trend among synergists: those who subscribe to a false gospel (Rome, the Orthodox Church, etc.) will make contact with synergists within the body of Christ (arminians, traditionalist southern baptists, etc.) in an attempt to either join with them or convert them. I have spoken before on the common betrayals of reformed brethren by the synergists … Continue reading Empty Rhetoric and Inconsistency for the Sake of Tradition

Is Southern Baptist Traditionalist Soteriology Synergistic?

What is synergism? [Synergism] is the teaching that we cooperate with God in our efforts of salvation. This is opposed to monergism which is the teaching that God is the sole agent involved in salvation. Cults are synergistic in that they teach that God’s grace combined with our efforts are what makes forgiveness of sins possible. (Synergism Carm.org) In other words, God is the only efficient cause in the bringing about of regeneration. Dr. Leighton Flowers and I had a discussion on one of his Facebook Live videos called, “Q&A on G3 and Synergism,” on his Soteriology 101 facebook page. At … Continue reading Is Southern Baptist Traditionalist Soteriology Synergistic?

The Realization of Reformed Theology

When a person realizes that Scripture reveals the level of sovereignty that God has over His creation (especially in the area of salvation), I believe that there are two reactions to this realization. These two reactions could also be brought out by asking the question, “if I could demonstrate to you that reformed soteriology and anthropology are both biblical, would you still trust Jesus, honor, serve and love God?” The two reactions are the following: Accept what Scripture teaches This is the difficult path (I know from experience). This response is likely indicative of a regenerate heart.      2. … Continue reading The Realization of Reformed Theology

Ordo Absurdum: 1 John 5:1

I would like to begin by stating that the Holy Scriptures teach that regeneration precedes (and necessarily results in) saving faith. (Note: By this, we do not mean that regeneration occurs at a different point in time — temporal sequence — than the initial exercise of saving faith, but that the two occur in a logical sequence; regeneration and faith are contemporaneous.) Many are aware that, when reformed theology seeks to establish this from Scripture, 1 John 5:1 often comes up. As a matter of fact, there has been much confusion concerning why the reformed community points to this … Continue reading Ordo Absurdum: 1 John 5:1

Hardening of the Brain

Dr. Flowers responded to my article because Dr. James White tweeted it out. Leighton Flowers continued his rant on twitter and even brought me up on his podcast. He brought me up at 2:29 and 14:36. In which he charges me with disrespecting him. I have done no such thing and have posted a long response to his arguments and have presented internal inconsistencies in his view. Well, he didn’t put his name on it and he failed to provide quotes or citations as specific examples of where I did what he accused me of I did quote you and I … Continue reading Hardening of the Brain

How to flunk Soteriology101?

I will criticize Dr. Leighton Flowers based on bad argumentation and faulty reasoning. I have talked to him and he seems like a nice guy. He just has the strangest way of being obsessed with Calvinism. This will hopefully be … Continue reading How to flunk Soteriology101?

The Wills of God

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4: “ For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,” This verses above are used to show God has a second will that fails to save the reprobate. The distinction in wills has historical routes in the Reformed faith but it is more a confusing linguistical tradition than anything else. I asked Steve Hays thoughts and he said this: I doubt 1 Thes 4:3 is using God’s “will” in the rather recondite, specialized sense required … Continue reading The Wills of God

Divine conceptualism is Univocism?

Some very great men that I admire think that Divine conceptualism employs univocal reasoning. Dr. James Anderson and Dr. Greg Welty have responses to such a charge. Mainly in responses to Nate Shannon. “Nevertheless, one might worry that identifying propositions with divine thoughts breaches the Creator-creation distinction. Do we really want to say that God himself is the propositional content of all our human thoughts? Doesn’t that in some sense bring God “down to our level”? If that’s the concern, I think there’s a relatively straightforward solution to it. We can say that one part of the creation is a … Continue reading Divine conceptualism is Univocism?

Original sin (Inherited guilt)

The first claim usually is that original sin was invented by Augustine. I think those claims are false, but that isn’t what I wish to get into here. I’ll reference these two videos for that objection: My goal is to survey the biblical evidence for the view from both testaments. I wish to look at OT evidence for the concept of Original Sin. Some say that God only punishes us for our own sins that are done in our own lives. I wish to show that is a false assumption. It is true that we are punished for our sins, … Continue reading Original sin (Inherited guilt)
