Determinism For Beginners

I was asked to take a look at this refutation of determinism.  https://christianapologetics0.wordpress.com/2019/11/27/against-determinism He(Jon the Apologist) starts out here by stating definition of “rational” without explaining what determinism is. This leaves him broad brushing multiple different versions of determinism. For example, here’s his first criticism: The first issue I see with determinism is the idea of a rational being coming from non-rational processes (laws of nature, molecules in motion, causality). How do molecules in motion produce truth, and produce beings who can evaluate evidence, form arguments, and come to true conclusions based on such evidence? Here determinism is equated with … Continue reading Determinism For Beginners

Derrida, Foucault, and the Bible

Dr. Christopher Watkins walks you through an introduction to the ideas of these famous postmodernist philosophers. It provides powerful observations that call for Van Tilian solutions about the ultimate context of reality.  https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/course/derrida-foucault-bible/#course-introduction He also had an interview with Dr. James Anderson about his books on these thinkers: Continue reading Derrida, Foucault, and the Bible

J. V. Fesko’s Deforming Apologetics

Here’s a group of links compiled by Békefi Bálint on J. V. Fesko’s book: J. V. Fesko’s Reforming Apologetics has caused quite a stir in presuppositional circles. A number of good reviews have been written by Van Tilian scholars. I’ve collected most of them below: Sam Waldron https://founders.org/2019/07/02/j-v-feskos-reforming-apologetics-retrieving-the-classical-reformed-approach-to-defending-the-faith-a-critical-review/ Presuppositional Ponderings after Reading Thomas Aquinas Camden Bucey, Jeff Waddington, Jim Cassidy https://reformedforum.org/ctc596/ Mike Warren http://christianciv.com/blog/index.php/2019/05/25/common-notion-confusion-part-1-of-a-review-of-j-v-feskos-reforming-apologetics/ http://christianciv.com/blog/index.php/2019/06/12/common-notion-confusion-part-2/ http://christianciv.com/blog/index.php/2019/07/14/common-notion-confusion-part-3/ Wes Bredenhof https://yinkahdinay.wordpress.com/2019/07/03/book-review-reforming-apologetics-1/ https://yinkahdinay.wordpress.com/2019/07/04/book-review-reforming-apologetics-2/ https://yinkahdinay.wordpress.com/2019/07/08/book-review-reforming-apologetics-3/ https://yinkahdinay.wordpress.com/2019/07/09/book-review-reformed-apologetics-4/ James Anderson https://www.proginosko.com/2019/06/reforming-apologetics-introduction/ https://www.proginosko.com/2019/06/reforming-apologetics-the-light-of-nature/ https://www.proginosko.com/2019/07/reforming-apologetics-common-notions/ https://www.proginosko.com/2019/07/reforming-apologetics-calvin/ https://www.proginosko.com/2019/08/reforming-apologetics-thomas-aquinas/ https://www.proginosko.com/2019/09/reforming-apologetics-worldview/ https://www.proginosko.com/2020/01/reforming-apologetics-transcendental-arguments/ https://www.proginosko.com/2020/11/reforming-apologetics-dualisms/ https://www.proginosko.com/2021/06/reforming-apologetics-the-book-of-nature-and-apologetics/ https://www.proginosko.com/2021/07/reforming-apologetics-wrap-up/ Continue reading J. Meals on Wheels

—Romans 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. I am going to continue my series on presuppositionalism: http://spirited-tech.com/COG/2018/02/27/a-little-presup-before-dinner/ http://spirited-tech.com/COG/2018/04/03/presup-before-dessert/ 1. Presuppositions A discussion of presuppositionalism will or should turn to what we mean by presupposition. To the surprise of no one, the idea of presuppositions is also debated. Different thoughts about that can be seen here: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/presupposition/ From my understanding most Van Tilians think that TAG should be argued as Collett has by implementing Strawsonian semantics theory of presuppositions then we have understood what Van Til was trying … Continue reading Meals on Wheels

Presup before Dessert

I discussed in a previous article some of the basic principles of presuppositionalism. I think I might be able to expand on some of those principles. 1. Transcendental Argument: In the last article, I briefly discussed the form of the transcendental argument and the disagreement that exist on how to formulate the Transcendental argument for God’s existence. The issue is that the transcendental argument for God’s existence isn’t merely one formulation, but rather a family of similarly formed arguments. I think it is perfectly acceptable to argue either form of the Transcendental argument. There was one objection that arose that neither of these arguments demonstrates that God … Continue reading Presup before Dessert
