I don’t know much about the debates in textual criticism but I know a small amount about Presuppositionalism. But I know that a group uses presuppositionalism to argue for TR priority. I think the position has issues that would possibly push it towards being Clarkianism and not Van Tilian. In TR priority thought is that God preserves his word by later and possibly throughout time giving us a document with no mistakes. This is to because it ties in with the doctrine of preservation. Now, TR priority folks don’t like that Textual Criticism done by a few folks are an … Continue reading Presuppositionalism and TR Priority
I had an exchange with Dr. Braxton Hunter on the issues of determinism, epistemology, and presuppositionalism. Braxton Hunter: no. I’m not saying LFW is intuitive (though it is). I’m saying that it’s intuitive to you that on some level an … Continue reading Braxton Hunter on Presuppositionalism and Determinism
—Romans 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. I am going to continue my series on presuppositionalism: http://spirited-tech.com/COG/2018/02/27/a-little-presup-before-dinner/ http://spirited-tech.com/COG/2018/04/03/presup-before-dessert/ 1. Presuppositions A discussion of presuppositionalism will or should turn to what we mean by presupposition. To the surprise of no one, the idea of presuppositions is also debated. Different thoughts about that can be seen here: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/presupposition/ From my understanding most Van Tilians think that TAG should be argued as Collett has by implementing Strawsonian semantics theory of presuppositions then we have understood what Van Til was trying … Continue reading Meals on Wheels
Alex: I don’t see why you need a Trinity in Unity within the Godhead in order to account for unity and diversity. A muslim could argue from the unity of Allah’s diverse attributes that they can account for unity and diversity. Necessitarian: 1.) Unitarian Gods lack personal diversity, and so unitarian Gods must resort to explaining the one-and-many relation in impersonal terms. This is to say that, at bottom, unitarianism answers metaphysics the same way Hinduism, Taoism, and monist naturalism do: the one-and-many derive from impersonal facts. Unitarianism reduces to impersonalism. 2.) Concurrently, unitarian Gods cannot even maintain traditional attributes. … Continue reading Trinity in Unity
Suppose you were locked in a mansion with 10 other individuals. You come to find that one of the 10 other individuals have murdered the owner of the mansion. You proceed to look for every piece of evidence available. You decided the evidential route was better than “The Butler did it”. You quickly find the evidence is limited and doesn’t demarcate one specific person as the criminal over another. Tensions are surely going to rise throughout the night as nobody can trust the other. The position you are in is a difficult one. But would you say that you are … Continue reading Murder on Apologetics Row
Someone posted a few questions for presuppositionalist and I figure that I would take a shot at answering them. 1. From a historical standpoint, it seems pretty evident that the Van-Tillian method of doing apologetics was a novelty in the history of Reformed theology. I don’t know how one dispels the evidence that Calvin, Turretin, and most of the puritans held to the classical model. Well, this is true. Presuppositionalism is a development based on a lot of ideas coming together. I think it is consistent with the Worldview reasoning that Christian is forced and always had to deal with. … Continue reading Questions on Presuppositionalism
I recently installed the Periscope app and look for new options on sharing the Gospel to others. I’ve come across some nice Christians who have an online Bible study or Prayer meeting. Those can be encouraging to grow from. Last … Continue reading Former Youth Pastor turned Atheist gets a lesson on Objective Morality.
I watched a conversation between Sye Ten Bruggencate and Mike Winger dialogue about the Biblical apologetic methodology. I am a bit rusty about the methodology debate but I will try to add my thoughts if I can. I went and watched the original video by Pastor Winger and I’ll make a few comments about my perspective. 1. Winger starts off by stating that presuppositionalist don’t believe in Atheist. That they believe Atheist consciously lie about their lack of knowledge of God. The issue is the presuppositionalist don’t actually think the unbeliever is always conscious of his unbelief. That is what … Continue reading Pastor Mike Winger on Presuppositionalism
