Short Critiques of Non-Christian Worldviews

I have tried to provide short simple critiques to model on how to evaluate individual worldviews. The problem with presuppositionalism is that it rarely is effectively used in practice and only spoken about in theory. Naturalism(common for most atheist): A little Presup before Dinner Wicca: Wavering Wicca Mormonism: Manhandling Mormonism Catholicism: Clashing with Catholicism Islam: Islam: A Reformed Critique Deism: Dubious Deism Jehovah’s Witnesses: The Fall of the Watchtower The 1914 Chronology of The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Jehovah’s Witnesses and the New World Translation Judaism: Do the Jews play TAG? Messianic Prophecy in the Jewish Scriptures Clarkianism: Clarkianism … Continue reading Short Critiques of Non-Christian Worldviews

Of Light and Salvation: A Leighton Flowers Mini Critique part 1

Leighton Flowers refers to Luke 2:32 as a means of how people can come to know God, specifically Jesus, as a way that God provides to people Salvation. Let’s look at the verse and put some context into it. Luke 2:32 (ESV) 32  a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” We will start with some early commentaries on what Luke 2:32 means: Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers: To lighten the Gentiles.—Literally, for a revelation to the Gentiles. The idea is strictly that of the withdrawal of the “veil spread over all nations” of Isaiah 25:7. The Self-Attesting Christ

We often think that we come up with new and distinct ideas. I never have that issue. That isn’t because my humility, but rather that is because I never have a thought. I wonder how some thought we have now may have existed with saints prior to us. It may have been Justin Martyr that noticed the self-attesting authority of the word of God: The word of truth is free, and carries its own authority, disdaining to fall under any skillful argument, or to endure the logical scrutiny of its hearers. But it would be believed for its own nobility, and for … Continue reading The Self-Attesting Christ

Numbers and the Bible

Here are Jimmy’s thoughts on mathematical truths: The simplest issue is that analyticity is not an absolute or flawless indicator of justification. There are equations so long they fill entire books, but these equations are just as analytically true as “2 + 2 = 4.” Simpler equations may be intuitive because of their analyticity combined with simplicity. However, the problem is that analyticity, were it a sufficient source of infallible justification, would justify book-long or even infinitely long equations. Book-long equations can be easily mistaken and infinitely long equations cannot even be computed by the mind. Also, there’s a huge … Continue reading Numbers and the Bible

Hypocrisy 101

Dr. Leighton Flowers has been an outspoken critic of all things Calvinism. He has made a bit of a following doing so. The problem with many of his arguments is their ability to refute his own position. That won’t be the point of what I’ll be talking about, but I would like to point out his hypocritical coverage of Calvinism and to that of Molinism. He never attacks the Molinism of his traditionalist allies. I can understand that that isn’t his audience nor is it his mission to give an analysis of different Soteriological systems. He is really Anti-Calvinism101 and … Continue reading Hypocrisy 101
