Covenantal Properties

[responsivevoice_button] I have an interest in issues around the doctrine of God and for sake of keeping stuff I read orderly I put it here. Here is something Dr. Bolt directed me to and I wish to share it for you people as well: As I understand Oliphint, having read and listened to most of his other works, God possesses contingent/covenantal/”God with us” properties due to his having condescended through the act of creation. As he explains especially in the fourth chapter of God With Us, these contingent properties do not constitute a nature, but in Oliphint’s scheme they function analogously to the human nature in … Continue reading Covenantal Properties

Philip Jackson and the Search for Compatibilist Answers

Another post on the infamous Philip Jackson’s attempt to take down Compatibilism. This time we have a special answer from Grant Hageman:  Philip Jackson: My argument against the Compatibilist view of “free will” 1. If the only criterion for human freedom is that a person acts in accordance with their strongest desire even if the desire itself is determined by another person, then Bob must be considered to be free in the case where I put a chip in his brain that determines him to desire to torture an infinite amount of infinitely sentient beings. 2. The only criterion(given Compatibilism) … Continue reading Philip Jackson and the Search for Compatibilist Answers

Early Jewish Monotheism and Materialism

It is presented by some enthusiasts that the Jews were just materialists. That no Jew in the 1st century thought God was a being that transcending the physical world. But that isn’t actually true because various perspectives existed in 2nd temple Judaism. The late NT scholar Larry Hurtado said in one of his works: Of course, once again, this draws on and reflects a developed Jewish view of the biblical deity, which has roots far back into prohibitions against making any image, in texts such as Deuteronomy 4:15-20, and in the dramatic account in Exodus 33:12-23 where God refuses Moses’ … Continue reading Early Jewish Monotheism and Materialism

ArminianDeceptions.Com

@I never said they stated their beliefs this way, but that it is one of their difficult options to take in the light of penal substitutionary atonement. Neither is there any argument or evidence as to why this would have to be the case in our view. No, wild and speculative theories are not evidence. Citation is still lacking. @The obligation is on him(assuming he takes this route) to answer why it doesn’t follow. I seem to recall the burden of proof being with the accuser. I don’t have disprove an assertion that doesn’t have any real weight behind it. … Continue reading ArminianDeceptions.Com

Determinism For Beginners

I was asked to take a look at this refutation of determinism.  https://christianapologetics0.wordpress.com/2019/11/27/against-determinism He(Jon the Apologist) starts out here by stating definition of “rational” without explaining what determinism is. This leaves him broad brushing multiple different versions of determinism. For example, here’s his first criticism: The first issue I see with determinism is the idea of a rational being coming from non-rational processes (laws of nature, molecules in motion, causality). How do molecules in motion produce truth, and produce beings who can evaluate evidence, form arguments, and come to true conclusions based on such evidence? Here determinism is equated with … Continue reading Determinism For Beginners

‘Provide the way of escape’

I recently discussed the issue of 1 Cor. 10:13 again with John Cranman: John Cranman TheSire, the first paragraph is not what I’m arguing. All I’m saying is that this verse affirms PAP/CCFW, and is thus incompatible with compatibilist determinism. I am not arguing for moral responsibility. I am only arguing that it supports the idea that believing agents had two or more options they could’ve chosen – which falsifies compatibilist determinism. TheSire: The article argues the freedom Paul writes is that of believers. But usually, your side maintains all mankind has LFW. So, unbelievers would lack LFW. John Cranman: … Continue reading ‘Provide the way of escape’
