Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eric Hernandez went on Soteriology101 to discuss Calvinism and presuppositionalism. It wasn’t a very interesting podcast. So, I’ll state a few brief things about it and won’t waste much time about it. 1. Hernandez is simply ignorant of the actual presuppositionalists view of the role of evidence in apologetics. He thinks Van Tilians are against evidence and even quips “Elijah didn’t read Van Til”. Dr. James Anderson stated in an article about “Frequently Encountered Misconceptions of Van Til”: 1. Van Til rejected the use of evidence in apologetics [A] minority of evangelicals continues to support retrenchment and isolationism. […] Not … Continue reading Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eternality101

Leighton Flowers, when pushed on the issue of whether foreknowledge is compatible with Libertarian freedom, appeals to Dr. William Lane Craig on the issue where many philosophers make a modal mistake. The issue with that response from Leighton is to assume that that is the only way Calvinist could argue for determinism is invoking the issue of necessity. But take the following argument: If God timelessly knows the past, then God’s knowledge of the past is unalterable, in which case the past is unalterable. If God timelessly knows the future, then God’s knowledge of the future is unalterable, in which case the future … Continue reading Eternality101

Flowers on the London Baptist Confession of Faith on Freewill

Leighton thinks the LBCF teaches that man has or had libertarian freedom. That is because the first two statements can be misinterpreted to state such: 1. God hath endued the will of man with that natural liberty and power of acting upon choice, that it is neither forced, nor by any necessity of nature determined to do good or evil.  ( Matthew 17:12; James 1:14; Deuteronomy 30:19 ) 2. Man, in his state of innocency, had freedom and power to will and to do that which was good and well-pleasing to God, but yet was unstable, so that he might … Continue reading Flowers on the London Baptist Confession of Faith on Freewill

Soteriology101

These are just various critiques of Leighton Flowers. The Flower patch kids are just a theological mess of people that don’t know what they are talking about and it is painful to watch their attempts to debunk Calvinism. One String Banjos

Dr. Leighton Flowers is a familiar name to anyone that regularly reads this website. So, to those 3 people, I don’t have to say much about this. He plays the anti-Calvinist banjo as his career song. That is fine and glad he has found a career that involves saying very little new things. I think the obligation of keeping Leighton in check is that of his followers. Instead, they blindly follow him as his personal internet heretic cult. That is why his followers are made up of Pelagians and Open Theists. I listened to a couple of his recent podcasts to see if … Continue reading One String Banjos

Flowers on Ephesians 1

Recently, I was kicked from the Soteriology 101 anti-Calvinist bash because Leighton was offended by something in my article. He stated that he was offended and what I said was childish. I informed him that it wasn’t childish and that he was begging the question. So, in honor of that, I have decided to write another Leighton Flowers article. I am not a big fan of his and you’ll see why. ——————————————–QUOTE—————————————————– 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace and peace to you from … Continue reading Flowers on Ephesians 1

Flower Patch Kids

Dr. Leighton Flowers has recently invited someone on his podcast to butcher Romans 9. That is a ritual and passage into manhood in the lands of the traditionalist. They spend the rest of their time trolling old John Macarthur sermons. So, back to the article, it was written by Dr. Eric Hankins. This won’t be a complete response article because I’m not that dedicated. ——————————————–QUOTE—————————————————– The repugnance of reprobation is why Calvinists like Grudem come up with philosophically incoherent fixes like “single predestination,” God’s “asymmetrical relationship” to election and reprobation, God’s “two wills,” “two loves,” and so on.[7] Grudem concedes that it … Continue reading Flower Patch Kids

The Moral Psychology of Depravity

James Gibson gives his thoughts on one of Leighton’s ‘arguments’ against Calvinism. The article unpacks the fact that Leighton exercises his ability to eisegete the issue of election into Mark 10 and misrepresents a common Calvinist understanding of Total Depravity. The article is a good insight on how to frame Total Depravity while talking to a traditionalist. I think one issue is that the passage is problematic for the traditionalist. Why would it be more difficult for a Rich man to enter the kingdom of God? Doesn’t a rich person have libertarian freedom? If what Flowers believe is true, then … Continue reading The Moral Psychology of Depravity

Class is in Session

I recently noticed someone tried to rebut my article on Leighton Flowers called ‘How to Flunk Soteriology101’. That is nice to see that Leighton’s followers are picking up the slack for him. The issue often is that his followers often don’t add any new content and only repeat old stale lines that Flowers gives them. So, over on the Bible Thumping Wingnut blog version of my post, someone responded to me. Here is what they said: I am not sure these are really the best ‘rebuttals.’ Well, it seems like many people think otherwise. 1. Always conflating Calvinism with determinism … Continue reading Class is in Session

Of Light and Salvation: A Leighton Flowers Mini Critique part 1

Leighton Flowers refers to Luke 2:32 as a means of how people can come to know God, specifically Jesus, as a way that God provides to people Salvation. Let’s look at the verse and put some context into it. Luke 2:32 (ESV) 32  a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” We will start with some early commentaries on what Luke 2:32 means: Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers: To lighten the Gentiles.—Literally, for a revelation to the Gentiles. The idea is strictly that of the withdrawal of the “veil spread over all nations” of Isaiah 25:7. Barnes’ … Continue reading Of Light and Salvation: A Leighton Flowers Mini Critique part 1
