Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eric Hernandez went on Soteriology101 to discuss Calvinism and presuppositionalism. It wasn’t a very interesting podcast. So, I’ll state a few brief things about it and won’t waste much time about it. 1. Hernandez is simply ignorant of the actual presuppositionalists view of the role of evidence in apologetics. He thinks Van Tilians are against evidence and even quips “Elijah didn’t read Van Til”. Dr. James Anderson stated in an article about “Frequently Encountered Misconceptions of Van Til”: 1. Van Til rejected the use of evidence in apologetics [A] minority of evangelicals continues to support retrenchment and isolationism. […] Not … Continue reading Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eternality101

Leighton Flowers, when pushed on the issue of whether foreknowledge is compatible with Libertarian freedom, appeals to Dr. William Lane Craig on the issue where many philosophers make a modal mistake. The issue with that response from Leighton is to assume that that is the only way Calvinist could argue for determinism is invoking the issue of necessity. But take the following argument: If God timelessly knows the past, then God’s knowledge of the past is unalterable, in which case the past is unalterable. If God timelessly knows the future, then God’s knowledge of the future is unalterable, in which case the future … Continue reading Eternality101

Parsing Revelational Epistemology

Presuppositionalists tend to state that they hold to something called “Revelational Epistemology”. But what does that mean? What does that entail? In order to answer those questions, we will have to enter into modern philosophical debates to answer them. Epistemology is the study of knowledge. It deals with what constitutes(or what is the content) of our knowledge, the justification of our knowledge, and the structure of our knowledge. The Content of Knowledge: This is to ask for what makes up our knowledge? Do we know things because of our senses? Because of our reason? How do we acquire knowledge? The … Continue reading Parsing Revelational Epistemology

Tautologicality and Christian Conceptualism

I’ll respond to this because I think it is a good example of how people don’t understand the issue of when presuppositionalist discuss logic. This is some atheist named Barry on the internet responding to Hays’ about logic on the article “From Whence Does Logic Come? (And why you can’t use it to prove God)”. Steve Hays replied to the “first principles” part and said: “But necessary truths of logic can’t derive from contingent truths of the physical world. In many respects, the physical world might have been different. Causation is a weaker principle than logical entailment.” Well first, Hays is … Continue reading Tautologicality and Christian Conceptualism

Cartesian Demons and Christianity

I’ll post a recent conversation between Jimmy and an atheist that recently occurred: Ledouche said: How do you know god isn’t an infinite deceiver? Jimmy said: I don’t consider infinite deceivers a possibility. Given the Christian worldview, the existence of the Christian God and His revelation rule out the possibility that there is such a deceiver floating about. God Himself is the original archetype of truth: his perfect self-coherence, self-reflection, and self-containment (by which I mean that all universals about God exhaust the particulars, and all particulars exemplify universals). And God determines the truths of the cosmos; His word is … Continue reading Cartesian Demons and Christianity
