I’ll be looking at another article from the Arminian perspectives website. Aseity is defined as, “existence originating from and having no source other than itself.” God, according to all branches of orthodox Christian theology, is the only Being who is self-existent. The issue at hand, briefly, is that if God has endowed His creations with a measure of free will, then the creatures’ own actions come from themselves (i.e. from their own self-determination) and hence the transcendent God’s knowledge of what they will do apparently is also rooted in that self-determination. Determinists such as Mr. Prussic contend that God’s knowledge … Continue reading Arminianism and Aseity
Recently. Eli Alyala had a conversation with a popular Atheist YouTuber Tom Jump. I’ll give my thoughts about this conversation. Others have commented about the conversations Tom Jump have had at other times. http://triablogue.blogspot.com/2019/03/is-there-no-evidence-for-gods-existence.html The conversation starts with the issue of the foundation of ethics(metaethics). Tom Jump is a moral realist that bases his metaethical view on the basis of human intuition and consensus. Eli presses on the issue of subjectivity. Tom responds that most people have … Continue reading The Book of Eli
If I was ever asked about evidence for the truth of Christianity, then I just point to the variety of the lines of evidence for it. I can always look at the truth of the testimony God provided us about Human nature. That man isn’t essentially good, but since the fall man has been totally depraved. So, no better worldview has explained the nature of man and evil so well. I don’t subscribe to the answer he gives to the problem of evil but he gives great statements of evil than answer about it. I’ll provide to resources I use … Continue reading The Depravity of Man
Posting on behalf of Josh Smith, a.k.a Calvinist Klein Since I finished the latest book on my current topic of personal study, I decided to take a break by reading this, which has been on the shelf for 2 years or more. Daniel Johnson made a very interesting observation when looking at the different options of free will/compatibilism available to the Calvinist: “First, Calvinist compatibilism about free will: Calvinists can accept many of the compatibilist theories of free will on offer in the literature today. Jonathan Edwards’ Freedom of the Will, according to which an action is free just in case … Continue reading Calvinism and the Problem of Evil
