A Mormon’s venture to the Planet Sentinel

There was a recent conversation between Robert Rowe and Kwaku El. The conversation wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. The conversation kicks off with Robert saying he was wishing for Kwaku to refute Dr. James White. That came across as a bit petty on the part of Robert. Why not route for Dr. White to change Kwaku’s mind? Is it better to win a theological argument or that someone becomes a Christian? That doesn’t mean Dr. White is without fault or that his position is correct. Rowe simply comes across to someone as wishing for the wrong … Continue reading A Mormon’s venture to the Planet Sentinel

Robert Rowe on KJV Onlyism

Robert Rowe has gone around popularizing an argument against KJV Onlyism. While I agree with there existing tension between the Grammatical-Historical method of interpretation and KJV Onlyism. I don’t think Psalm 145 is as ironclad as Robert has presented it from my understanding. Let’s look at the argument: http://dustoffthebible.com/Blog-archive/2016/04/01/translation-errors-in-the-king-james-version-psalm-145-wheres-the-nun/ KJV: 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. 14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. Robert Rowe on Sensus Plenior

I was reading an exchange between Dr. Bowen and Robert Rowe and found the exchange was missing the real issue. I won’t reproduce the whole exchange that occurred, but I will provide a link. Rowe was defending Hugh Ross’s concordism by using Matthew quoting Hosea. The issue is that Robert’s case seems to misses the real issue or rather the right solution: I still think this form of concordism is misunderstood. I keep repeating that I don’t nullify the clear ANE context of these passages. But neither do I ignore the sensus plenior nature of the text (that the entire … Continue reading Robert Rowe on Sensus Plenior

Guardians of the Gay

Some have bought the lines thrown out by those who argue the Bible is compatible with homosexuality. Robert Rowe was throwing some of those liberal arguments out there in an article he wrote. https://www.sentinelapologetics.org/single-post/2018/04/09/Homosexuality-Why-Christians-Should-Not-Use-Leviticus-1822 Certain schools of theology will have you learn artificial systematic ways in which we can organize these laws, placing them into ceremonial, civil, etc. Unfortunately no one in the ANE (including Moses) would even understand our artificial musings. Rowe’s mistakes are that it will take an actual argument to demonstrate these claims. The claim that distinctions in the Law are artificial would just be the claim … Continue reading Guardians of the Gay

Rowe’s Dilemma

Robert Rowe has been in some recent dialogues about his interpretation of the Genesis. I think he walks the accommodationist and concordist tight wire to make his interpretations. He finds the Bible to be the product of outdated ideas and sees these as God accommodating to his Ancient Near Eastern people. He finds that atheist objections are foolish because they are trying to read science back on to a mythological text. He, for example, thinks the Bible teaches that the universe fits this model: On the other hand, he is a scientist. He loves to see his ideas correspond with an exterior reality. … Continue reading Rowe’s Dilemma
