Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Eric Hernandez went on Soteriology101 to discuss Calvinism and presuppositionalism. It wasn’t a very interesting podcast. So, I’ll state a few brief things about it and won’t waste much time about it. 1. Hernandez is simply ignorant of the actual presuppositionalists view of the role of evidence in apologetics. He thinks Van Tilians are against evidence and even quips “Elijah didn’t read Van Til”. Dr. James Anderson stated in an article about “Frequently Encountered Misconceptions of Van Til”: 1. Van Til rejected the use of evidence in apologetics [A] minority of evangelicals continues to support retrenchment and isolationism. […] Not … Continue reading Eric Hernandez on Presuppositionalism

Soteriology101

These are just various critiques of Leighton Flowers. The Flower patch kids are just a theological mess of people that don’t know what they are talking about and it is painful to watch their attempts to debunk Calvinism. A Response to Soteriology 101 by Chris Harris

A Response to Soteriology 101 by Chris Harris The original article/blog post can be found here: Calvinism’s Conflation – SOTERIOLOGY 101 It wasn’t that long ago that I was asked the question “how is it that one can be saved?” My reply was, of course, to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout all of the Monergism vs Synergism (or however you wish to label it) debate over the centuries this answer, although universal, has had many different understandings. Some would suggest that man’s belief is due to a wholly monergistic work of God (Monergism), while others would suggest this … Continue reading A Response to Soteriology 101 by Chris Harris

Class is in Session

I recently noticed someone tried to rebut my article on Leighton Flowers called ‘How to Flunk Soteriology101’. That is nice to see that Leighton’s followers are picking up the slack for him. The issue often is that his followers often don’t add any new content and only repeat old stale lines that Flowers gives them. So, over on the Bible Thumping Wingnut blog version of my post, someone responded to me. Here is what they said: I am not sure these are really the best ‘rebuttals.’ Well, it seems like many people think otherwise. 1. Always conflating Calvinism with determinism … Continue reading Class is in Session

Of Light and Salvation: A Leighton Flowers Mini Critique part 1

Leighton Flowers refers to Luke 2:32 as a means of how people can come to know God, specifically Jesus, as a way that God provides to people Salvation. Let’s look at the verse and put some context into it. Luke 2:32 (ESV) 32  a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” We will start with some early commentaries on what Luke 2:32 means: Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers: To lighten the Gentiles.—Literally, for a revelation to the Gentiles. The idea is strictly that of the withdrawal of the “veil spread over all nations” of Isaiah 25:7. Barnes’ … Continue reading Of Light and Salvation: A Leighton Flowers Mini Critique part 1
